Phantasy Star: Portable!

This has got to be one of the more decent PSP game's I've played in a while. Screens soon.

: After all this hell I've went through recently, I've finally
gotten my paws on this awesome game, and I love it! (except the
S-Class enemies who are Lvl.80's and up, lol!) Having beaten the
game already, I'll also be making a mini-FAQ here of what I've went
through and spoil my stats, along with hosting a vid of myself in action.

being there as Len, but I look like who I like to stick with from CS-2
who's unplayable. lol! Also, seem to be one crazy pyromaniac, I bombard
my enemies with Firaga (AKA: Rafolie), but also use a large Ice Spell
arsenal too.

Side Note: Since I started myself as a 2nd character as well but by scratch, this makes things quite harder to deal with. I now have to start basic-leveling before I go anywhere! True that I took out De Raggan the Dragon without any chaotic issues or sweat, but still it was dangerous to get close to him, and not being Level 20 for a start makes it a bit rough; simularly, not being a beast since I basicly came from the second Shikigami War, I have no trance-mode, so if I get in a tight spot, it can get ugly for me if I'm careless.

LOL, I know. That's why I said "mind the bad quality" since
it's my PSP-1K Slaystation portable. We don't have the wire for the
2K1 yet since I sold it back when we didn't have it, so Mint had held
the cam for me, and my B/f watched the mess. I even let out a "Damn!"
in there too because I screwed up on a part for dosing off, lol!

Anyway, to start the FAQ (which I will try to get to the
final boss part as well)
here's what I can recall so far:

Stage 1 (Prologue)
Zone: Guardians' Space Station, Farm Plant
Fields: 2
Unlocked Units: Vivienne, Laia Martinez

This stage appears on the demo.

Start : You are being introduced to the Guardians by your instructor, then you take a tutorial; go to the Guardians' HQ, find Vivienne, and select the proper option (I chose to shake hands with her and say nothing).

Field 1: Two areas; it's a space station stage with a tutorial. The field is
occupied by very weak enemies (Level 1 through 5). Start with Laia & Viv.
Simply destroy everything that stands in your way and move to room 2.
In the end of this part of the stage, there's an event where you and Viv
encounter Helga, the terrorist. You have the option to either tell Vivienne to be nice and tell Helga to leave (good, but futile), or "something doesn't seem right, Detain her!" (rude, but makes sense).

Field 2: three areas, still a bit of a tutorial. You may only enter this stage with Laia and Viv. Same enemies here as in the previous stage, but it branches off quite a bit at area 2. You will be introduced to "Gate Keys". There's a mid-boss in room 3: the Della Grenna. Decimate him with ice attacks, and avoid his ground attacks. Try not to stay too close to him if you're too weak because he has a wide spinning attack to damage everything around him. His second ranged attack (which he may attempt as a preemptive attack, most of the time) will be to spit a dull-homing spiked missile at your fleet, quickly move to the side of this and attack him up close and personal, he should fall quickly. At the end of the fight, you are with a option from Laia about Vivienne. Choose whatever you see fit. I chose the first option: "She does need a partner."

Contient Unlocked: Your room, Encounter your personal partner mech, Interplanetary travel: Parum (mind my bad spelling).

Stage 2 (Introduction to Parum, the home of Casts/Mechs)
Zone: Parum, Meadows
Fields: 02
Boss: 01 (in field2)

Start: You have a talk with the headmaster, go to the HQ and find a
new unit who will join you; Hyuga Ryght. He loves girls (and yes, this
game unlike Radiant Mythology was more correct to that fact, so he even
tempted to flirt with BOTH of my main character-reincarnations), but still pays respect to other men as well (was told by a sibling who used a male main character that Hyuga had a different, but still very polite response to him). He will join you after you go to Planet Parum. As you arrive, you have two options, and make sure you select the right choice, or both Vivienne and Laia may get slightly upset. Go to the HQ and let the rest of the events explain what I failed to.

Field 1: There's a few options to select here before and after the mission. You may only team up with Vivienne and Hyuga in order to start this mission. The SEED forces are still a bit weak, but may pose some problems (Level 7 thru 10). Simply destroy everything in the way and make haste to the end of the field.

Field 2: Vivienne will ask you a question before and after this mission. She will be the only one you may team up with here. Do the same process as the previous stage, but be careful. Once you get to Area-3's end be sure to use the recovery pannel on both yourself and Viv, and make sure all of your weapons are fully repaired before you continue. Prepare to defend
yourself! (This boss appears in the demo on Multiplayer Mode)

Stage Boss: De Raggan, the Dragon
Difficulty: Easy to Medium
HP: ???? (Approx. near 3000 to 5K?)
Boss Level: 10
Buff against fire, Vulnerable to Ice
Weakpoint: His head
Recommended against him: Ice weapons/Spells, One Option (to shoot him from the air if you can't with your rifle/bow/dual-HG)

Attacks:
Method 1 (on ground) :
Stomp while Walking (do NOT stand too close to his feet when he is walking!), Fire Laser (tilts his head towards either you or Viv, and emits a long fire laser) Burn status, Flame thrower (same motions, but shorter range due to extended radius) Burn status, Dash (will charge at you like Rathalos. Not different than in Monster Hunter, this is very bad to be hit by!), Tail Sweep (his twin tails will have a pair of flaming spheres, and he will sweep them around a wide zone behind him), Quake Impact (he will roar, then lift his hind legs and slam the ground to emit a shockwave for massive damage), Takeoff (goes to method 2)

Method 2 (in the air) :
Counter-Ground Flamethrower (burns the ground below him) Burn status, Homing Firebolt (he will launch one, or sometimes three fire missiles at you which have good homing capabillity and combo damage) Burn status, Swoop (he quickly glides near the ground, leaving a blade-llike drift under him, avoid being under him when he does this), Land (he drops from the air and will crash into any targets near him for some big pain)

Defeat him and end the stage.
Unlocked Contient: Upgrade Grinder-X5, Class Selection @ HQ, three Freelance Missions, Interplanetary travel to Matoob.

Custom firmware much? If I remember right, you can record directly off a PSP with Custom Firmware. It's also how I get my screenshots.

: Lol, never did it yet (or know how to...).
Also, my poor slaystation portable is on a bad edge, it lasted for
at least four years until my mom just had to trip over the tray
when I thought I had it FAR out of the way and now the disk slot
is broken. I have to use toilet paper to hold it closed tight... and
even worse, it shuts down when unplugged after approx. 3 to 5
minutes for some awful reason, but I still love my slaystation
portable... even if all a messed up, under-date 1001 type and also
with a bad square button.

Anyway, I messed up on my number of deaths, I added one extra
by accident (I only died 13 times, not 14), but I made some progress
today; I think all that's left are the S-Class missions for my original
self as

but those are the Lvl-80+ missions... and those are going to be
a pain in the exhaust port... Lvl-75 was bad enough and demoted
to a regular A-Rank (Incomplete, but survived and destroyed 99.5%
of SEED-units) when I tried out Fighter Master for the 1st go.
Sadly to say, I dislike Fightmaster style... NO range weapons, and
very weak spells are a fatal disadvantage to me.

Anyway, I have to admit that I've done another accidental creation...
My 1st incarnation there was supposed to be as Len, but instead
I look half of both at once:

and more of myself as appearing now than Len...

Oh, and for randomness, Helga had to drop TWO nukes on me,
Vivienne and Lou, and still failed to take us down, lol!

If this game never taught me anything, I now overlevel when I'm playing RPGs now. Star Ocean, I'm far too high for where I am, likewise whenever I play a Pokemon game.

: Well, ouch for me. Just this same day I posted here,
I ended up with my death count soaring from 13 to 17 because
of the S-Class jerks around Level 85 zones (since they were
actually Mid-Boss classed SEED units, they were actually a few
Lvl.90+'s, and ruined everything!), but now Lvl.80 now myself.

As soon as I finished the game, It went to my "Finished" pile and started 5 other games.

I regret having started 5 games at once.

: LOL! I know what you mean, I even had a few
other games that are epic, yet I hardly got through the start of
them...

As of side note further into this one, I find Clear A-Class ranks
as much as a plain insult of "It's a win, but you actually suck
because you failed to destroy everything else." I was hoping to
get as S-Rank cleared stats, but I don't get how I can get so
careless enough to miss some targets at times... if I ever drop
below even THAT of an insult, I sware I'll delete that entire file
and start from scratch! ...none of the characters agree with
seeing an A-Rank is an insult, but I find it humiliating because
it slightly lowers chances of getting the best and rare wares,
along with downing gained points, pay, and absolutely throws
my hard-worked-for Upgrade Grinder to oblivion.
I'd prefer Perfect or Game-Over.

So in most cases, you tend to be a perfectionist in games? I guess I can be like that too.

She let me start my own character in the game too! Woot!

: Lol, I like your "Take THIS!!" line in the game. (Yes I
used your player once). Anyway, I see that I ripped those lvl.95's a
new one like the RYNO. It was a tight rush around the Rappy-Boss,
but I won; however, now I'm in a deadlock.... it seems that I
won't be finding the last items past the 78%'s because I
checked the Multi-Player modes and found TONS of
incomplete missions there... and without at least a 2nd disk,
there's no way that I'll be getting through THOSE areas!

They're just like the good ol' regular sega genesis dungeons...
compactor-reactors, traps everywhere, sealed gates that
require CO-OP to open them (up from two to four people
required to trigger the gates), slightly buffed enemy-systems,
indestructible traps... just like a legend!

...just like in MH-F2, without at least a second hunter with
me, I'm surly not going to be getting anywhere further, but
THIS game is far more serious with it than Monster Hunter.
All I can do right now is Level to 100, finish off upgrading my
favorite spells (Technics), work on those class-types that I
don't like much (Oh hell!), look for the rest of the items I can
find, or go further with myself as from CS2 and start a FAQ.

: Oops, moved too fast for the chance to mark the rest
of my planned FAQ, but I've found out how I almost look as original
as in CS-2 with some differently found objects the 2nd round. I found
myself a scythe, and a pink maid dress to go with it, and this
combination is nicely done... almost perfect in fact.

Now a bad update with this;
number of deaths has increased (Died twice today ), making a total
of THREE deaths in my CS-Typer form...ouch!

(LOL! When they said that I was a fighter, they weren't kidding! Even if at
a disadvantage of not being able to beastorize or use S.U.V. Weapons, I
still literally beat the $h!t out of things with hand-to-hand fighting! I don't
even need a scythe to always get the job done! Second game which
proved this fact; if the scythe fails for me as a CS-Typer, it will not hurt
to try another weapon to still stay on par.)
-all others fall in the same categories of weapons as my original self-

1st outfit: Red Maydi dress, black High Heels (due to originality),

Side Note: Not as weak as I thought now, but things still get to
become nasty when in large mobs by A-Class or S-Class opponents.

Recent:
Beaten the game, knocked Helga out flat on her buttside (I laughed
so hard that I woke up my parrot and other pet bird. First time I've
seen SEED-Helga fall on her butt!), but got a not-so-good ending.
The second bad part is of how my deaths have risen from 4 to 7
because of the near-even match (Lvl64) against the final boss. Helga
still never succeeded to ever kill me with her nukes, no mater how
hard she tried to with them.

okay, back on topic: I've given up on the FAQ, someone else already
finished it so this one is tossed out to the trash.
...anyway, I've started on two others for the full examination of what
differences and characteristics each race has. Here's my results,
and thoughts of each type, personally.

Beast
Personal: Most liked
Why? - Beastorize (NanoBlast/Trance mode) to get out of tight spots.
One word: "Meow. " Also, this was of who I was the very first time
I ever tried out this version of the game's series.

Newman (elvan-like)
Personal: 2nd place
Thoughts? - No trance mode sucks, but I love the high-spell stats
factor, plus I can bring out an original guest or two from Melty Blood,
if I take time and chance to do so as close as possible. (which I will
do that)

Human
Personal: Average
Thoughts? - Nothing much to say here. Like people of today; No
overwhelming strong points, but no absolute weaknesses either.
Basic and balanced overall, as always. Still no trance, so... bleh.

Cast (Mechas)
Personal: Least favorable
Why? - Weakest spell damage, and sorry... I'm more of the Mage of
the house... so having low magic stats is a serious disadvantage for
me. I don't "Hate" the Casts' style, but it's just NOT for me.
The S.U.V. weapons are another story. Those are cool, but I didn't
have the patience to have one unlocked yet. Will train for that some
time around.

: *sigh* ...another day of trying to go through
an S-Class battle with the final boss, and I just keep getting
uglier each time... another unneeded death! Now that makes
18 on my original self there! *sobs* Wow I suck! 18 deaths!

I ended up with two at first and ended up getting a silly
CAST weapon for two deaths (Grrr!!!) I was so angry and
humiliated that I just dropped out without saving and started
that stage over again as before I entered it, but still looked
like an ass! ...at least I got a S-Classed Machine gun for
that crap and now the shield spells along with my homing
mine are all just on the brink of being maximum level, and I
got closer to Lvl.89, but a bad reputation of 18 deaths
shows a serious lack of skill!

I disagree about the looking ugly part. You win most, you lose a pinch, there's no "Game Over!" screen, and that's the best part of this game; like Soul Calibur 2 & 3, losses do nothing but you keep the stats and get stronger to stomp the chumps later

...even more embarrassing, I got another weak "A-Rank",
which drops my stat-boost bonus yet again (OMG!!
NOOOO!!!!!), I think I was stupid enough to miss a large
enemy hiding near some supply boxes I accidentally destroyed
from an afar area in the 1st zone of the Awoken Serpent's
stage, yet I was forced to keep the stigma of disgrace from:

1: Leveled up to 89, not worth dissing for a miss.
2: All other characters didn't think it sucked (but I disagree),
3: Shield Spell and Plasma Bomb Nozoronde are completely maxed,
4: Ended up being bribed to keep a "All unlocked" title and a shotgun which was way stronger than the other shotguns I have,
5: Found some stuff to give to a sibling some time soon (Black'n'Red Illuminus Coat) again.

...but now I have to go through that crap again because:
1: Failed (well not quite. Got the lame "A-Rank" but means I failed to kill all targets, so it's embarrassing)
2: since I screwed up, NO Upgrade Grinder!! Ouch!! =^x.x'^=
3: Still didn't find the Earth-Type Homing missile/bomb spell from that stage yet; I assume the incomplete rank has destroyed my chance of it appearing *sobs*

...glad I saved the file I had just after I beat the game to my
back-up driver before all of this dishonorable incomplete and
increased deaths crap started soaring. A-Rank is "amateur"!

If it's not a S-Class rank, it sucks!

Okay, for my personal opinion about the rankings, I'll take it
almost like a DMC-Style commentary:
S = Sexy (Perfect, proper, and professional. So-me!)

A = Amateur (May be good at taking the boss down, but suck because I missed something out of being stupid)
B = Brainless (If I fall around this rank one time, I'm most certainly NOT going to save whatsoever! I'm really going to cry if I ever find myself falling this low!)
C = Can't even be called a player! (Oh God, if I ever go NEAR this, I'll shoot myself...)

So Im guessing this game is worth a DL then?

now to find sites...and to call my friend...he better bring the stuff tomorrow...or another week w/o any PSP games.

Speaking of which, I'm baffled of something that happened
last night after I came back home from college! I was in the
game as my original self, but even facing off all of those
S-Class enemies to try to get Nozdiga (Serpent-Summon
Homing missile for underground), and found nothing but Cast
(Mecha) outfits and some very strong armor parts, but
couldn't match the slots... along with a new superior Axe
weapon I didn't have, and maxed out ALL of my spell
mastery, so I got bored and went back in as my Shikigami
Weapon, took that same mission on the Easiest level, and
for some reason... snagged the homing spell right on the
spot

I was like... "Wtf?! How did I get it while in THIS form
instead of my original self?!", but at least now I know
that I don't actually HAVE to go on the hardest level
of that area to find it! I'll just keep going on the easiest
one all day if I have to since it's WAY faster and less
of a risk!

: For my original self in the game, this is the closest I look like
so far, since the vid wasn't the best quality I could get directly... so, more
art!

LOL! I thought that you had a little more muscle on your character than this, but oh well. Also, those enemies are quite easy when I beat them up except for the Vol-Bros. for a bit. Bombarded me with Gifole (Short-Range Firaga Bombs) but I still took 'em out.

Well, as promised, a better quality video this time showing three of
my reincarnations in the boss run at the end; My original self in there
but a bit changed and way stronger than in my last video on PS-P1,
then in-game as Arala Cran (had to leave my scythe on the side since
those bosses were causing some major damage, the pain is exactly as in Castle Shikigami 2. No shield means a 3-hit death by S-Class
enemies, and at least 5 from A-Class), and of course my newest and
the smallest character in the game...
